Mt. Helix Park

History

Located at 1300 feet above sea level, Mount Helix Park is San Diego County’s most beautiful landmark. The park is a six acre mountaintop park that opened in 1925. The park features an outdoor amphitheater, security cameras and a walking trail. A nonprofit organization called the Mount Helix Park Foundation oversees the park’s preservation.

The foundation’s mission is to preserve and enhance Mt. Helix Park. The foundation’s goals are to maintain the park without public funds, create additional improvements, and acquire land to expand the park.

The foundation recently acquired land next to the original Park trust property and plans to build on it. The foundation has also added electronic entrance gates, a walking trail, security cameras, and a 1600 capacity outdoor amphitheater.

In 1929, the Yawkey family gifted the park to the county. The park was entrusted to the county in a trust that protects the landmark. However, the County proposed splitting the park in two.

Amphitheater

Located in La Mesa, California, Mount Helix Park has a unique amphitheater. This historic structure was built in the early 1900s. It is a perfect place for concerts and other cultural events.

Mount Helix Park is open daily from 5:30 AM to 5:00 PM. There is a small parking lot on the upper side of the park. The park is open to dogs on leashes. The park does not allow barbeques.

The park offers a quarter mile trail that winds around the park. Visitors can see the view of neighborhoods and valleys. There are also several plant identification signs. The QR codes on the signs help to identify plants.

The park also features an open air amphitheater that has a capacity of 1600 people. The amphitheater is a great place to see cultural events and lectures. The amphitheater features stadium-style seats.

Picnic area

Located in La Mesa, California, Mt Helix Park is a nature preserve and a popular tourist spot. It is often called “The Crown Jewel of East County” and a must-see destination in San Diego.

The park features several attractions. There is an amphitheater with a 1600 seat capacity, an outdoor exercise session and a virtual yoga class. A half-mile trail is also available.

The park is open daily from 5:30am to 5:00pm. Visitors are welcome to bring their dogs on a leash. There is a pet drinking fountain and a Doggie Doo bag. The park also hosts regular family-friendly nature lectures, a kid’s art camp and habitat restoration workshops.

The park is also home to many historic plants and native habitats. The Yawkey Trail is a semi-circle around the park. It offers a beautiful view of La Mesa and San Diego. Additional info!

Native habitats

During the summer of 2018, a series of educational lectures on nature/sustainable living will be held at Mount Helix Park in La Mesa CA. The lectures will touch on topics such as native plant use, habitat restoration, and the preservation of bird and wildlife populations. The lectures will be free and open to the public. The speakers will include Phil Lambert, Audubon Naturalist, who will talk about using California native plants in our gardens.

On the first Saturday of each month, Mount Helix Park hosts a Habitat Restoration Workday program. This is a family-friendly event where residents can take part in a restoration project. They will learn from experienced restoration team leaders, who will provide instruction on habitat restoration practices.

In addition, Ed Piffard, a California native plant expert, will discuss habitat restoration, which includes a walk along the Yawkey Trail. He will also discuss the process of habitat restoration, including weed abatement.

Annual heART of Mt Helix event

heART of Mt Helix is an annual fundraiser to benefit the Mt Helix Park Foundation. This event brings together local musicians, visual artists, and culinary artists to showcase their art and to support the Foundation’s mission.

The event features a silent auction and a live auction that features donated artwork. This is a wonderful opportunity to bid on art that has been donated to the Foundation by local artists and businesses. The funds raised by the event help to maintain the park’s amphitheater, cross memorial, and surrounding nature preserve.

Tickets for this event range from $40 to $125. General amphitheater seating costs $60. There are also reserved table seats available for $125.

The event features art auctions, live performances, and food samplings from local restaurants. The Sunset Event features live music on two stages. The Mighty Untouchables band is a popular San Diego band. They will play at the Sunset Event on August 15th. Click for more!
